چکیده

Multi-stimuli-responsive soft materials introduce a new dimension in the design and control of machines, enhancing their use complex applications. In article number 2100336, Metin Sitti co-workers report bimorph material with uncoupled integration magnetic-responsive elastomer liquid crystal elastomer. This enables heterogeneous properties local addressability for independent separate parts within single device, its physical intelligence. The illustrated legged milli-robot showcases one example robotic application reported material.

A soft-polymer piezoelectric bimorph cantilever-actuated peristaltic micropump.

A peristaltic micropump was fabricated and characterized. The micropump was fabricated using soft lithography, and actuated using piezoelectric bimorph cantilevers. The micropump channel was formed by bonding two layers of PDMS, mixed at 5:1 and 30:1 ratios. The channel was fabricated in the 5:1 layer using replica molding (REM), where a very simple and inexpensive template was made by straddli...

Soft materials with graphitic nanostructures.

This review article focuses on our recent studies on novel soft materials consisting of carbon nanotubes. Single-walled carbon nanotubes, when suspended in imidazolium ion-based ionic liquids and ground in an agate mortar, form physical gels (bucky gels), where heavily entangled bundles of carbon nanotubes are exfoliated to give highly dispersed, much finer bundles. By using bucky gels, the fir...

Materials and designs for wirelessly powered implantable light-emitting systems.

Strategies are presented to achieve bendable and stretchable systems of microscale inorganic light-emitting diodes with wireless powering schemes, suitable for use in implantable devices. The results include materials strategies, together with studies of the mechanical, electronic, thermal and radio frequency behaviors both in vitro and in in-vivo animal experiments.
